Shri NImishamba Temple

About the temple

The Nimishamba Temple, Rajarajaeshwari Nagar, built-in 2006 and inaugurated on May 7th, 2006 is a serene oasis nestled inside the busy Bangalore city. This
temple is constructed with red laterite stone in the traditional Parashurama Kshetra architecture style. This unique style is traditionally found in
Dakshina Karnataka and Kerala. Kanipayoor Krishnan Namboodiri, a famous Temple architect in South India gave the Nimishamba Temple its beautiful design and structure.

The name ‘Nimishamba’, literally translates to Nimisha – a minute, and Amba – the name of Parvati. Goddess Nimishamba is hence considered an embodiment of Goddess Parvati. The devotees have faith that Goddess Nimishamba will resolve their worries in one minute. Shrichakra is carved on a stone in front of Shri Nimishamba where the devotees immerse themselves in the Pooja and offerings.

The legacy of the Shri Nimishamba Devi goes back to King Sumanaska. Sumanaska once decided to do Pundarika Yaga on the advice of Lord Parameshwara (Lord Shiva) to encourage world peace. Mukta Rishi agreed to perform the Yaga at the request of Sumanaska. Narada informed Janumandala, the grandson of Vrutrasura, about the Yaga, and he was determined to seek revenge. Hence, to destroy noble intent he then decided to stop Sumanaska from carrying out this Yaga. Janumandala had previously got a Boon from Lord Brahma that made him impervious to harm to any movable or unmovable objects. They solicited Guru Shukracharya’s assistance and dispatched the army to battle Mukta Rishi. Not able to defeat Janumandala during this war, Mukta Rishi began to offer prayers to Goddess Parvati. Goddess Parvati emerged from the Yagna Kunda in a flash, killed Janumandala and Sumandala, and finished the Yaga. Muktha Rishi conferred the goddess with the name “O Jaganmathe Nimishamba,” for coming to his aid and helping him vanquish his enemies.
